ProtoFrenz repair and upgrade service — for Studio and D-Lux heads purchased from ProtoFrenz. Whether your build needs a fix, a component refresh, or a full NeoPixel upgrade, select your service tier below and we'll take care of the rest.

Before sending anything in, contact us first with your original ProtoFrenz order number. Service is available for ProtoFrenz-sold heads only — we cannot service third-party or DIY builds. We'll confirm eligibility and send you shipping instructions.

Service Tiers

Diagnostic — $35

We assess your build, identify the fault, and provide a detailed repair quote. The $35 diagnostic fee is applied toward any subsequent repair booked within 30 days.

Electronics Swap — $90 + parts

Replace a failed controller, display, microphone, or touch sensor. Labor is $90 — replacement parts are billed separately at cost after assessment. We'll confirm the parts cost before proceeding.

Display Upgrade — $75 labor + parts

Upgrade your Studio MAX7219 head to a full NeoPixel RGB display — the same display used in D-Lux builds. Your head becomes functionally equivalent to a D-Lux after this upgrade. Labor is $75 — NeoPixel electronics are billed separately at cost. If your head is within its 90-day warranty, labor is covered; parts are not.

PF3 Retrofit — $125 + parts

Install a ProtoFrenz 3.0 controller into an existing ProtoFrenz head with an older controller. Bring your build up to current PF3 spec — WiFi WebUI, 134+ presets, voice-reactive mouth, OTA updates. Parts billed separately at cost.

Full Refurb — $175 + parts

Full strip-down, component inspection, worn or failed parts replaced, rewired, reassembled, and tested. Best for heads that have seen significant convention wear. Parts billed separately at cost after assessment.

Shipping

  • Warranty claims (within 90 days): ProtoFrenz covers return shipping. You cover inbound.
  • Elective service: Include a prepaid return shipping label with your head. If no label is received within 14 days of repair completion, a flat fee will be charged — $50 domestic, $100 international.

How to Book

  1. Contact us via the support form with your ProtoFrenz order number and a description of the issue — do not send anything before receiving instructions
  2. Strip the head down to the bare base — remove ears, fur, cheek bubbles, and accessories. We are not responsible for damage to accessories not part of the original build
  3. Ship to the address we provide, with return label enclosed if applicable
  4. Turnaround is typically 2–3 weeks from receipt
